First and foremost is interviewing some qualified professional realtors and see who is a good fit for you. Keep in mind this person is handing your biggest investment, so make sure it is a real estate agent you can trust and is looking for your best interests.
Make sure they have an up to date licence and have insurance through RECO and are registered to a board that is recognized in your area ie: MREB TREB OREB.
It is good to clarify with your agent the best way to communicate with you, be it by phone calls, texts or emails. Having these things discussed early on can avoid and miscommunications in the future.
Hiring an agent who is experienced in your market is also very important, they should know the local market, schools, amenities, hospitals etc.
